Make a video thumbnail for PSP
THM file is coupled with MP4 (video) file providing video thumbnail feature on your Sony PSP. You can capture a video thumbnail in PSP Movie Creator during both preview and recording. Click the Thumbnail button (on the right of the "Record it " botton) to save the current video frame as a thumbnail (*.THM file) . This helps to identify the video content easily in PSP. The THM file is actually in JPG format. You can associate THM files with any image viewer on your PC so that you can double click and view it easily on your computer.
How to play MP4 file on computer?
You can install Quicktime or VLC player to play MP4 video files on your PC.
You can check the free space available in your memory stick by clicking "PSP Video Transfer" menu. It will display memory card usage on a pie chart.

MP4 is a new container format, a container format allows you to combine different multimedia streams into one single file. Multimedia containers are for example the well known AVI, MPEG , Matroska, OGM.
MP4 is the global file extension for the official container format defined in the MPEG-4 standard. MP4 is streamable and supports all kinds of multimedia content, multiple audio-, video-, subtitlestreams, pictures, variable-framerates, -bitrates, -samplerates...) and advanced content like 2D and 3D animated graphics, user interactivity, DVD-like menus.

What extension is MP4 using?
.mp4: only official extension, for both audio and video files (and advanced content)
.m4a: introduced by apple for aac/alac audio-only files, m4a can safely be renamed to .mp4
.m4p: DRM protected files sold in iTunes, using the DRM sheme developed by apple
.m4e: renamed .sdp files used by Envivio for streaming
.m4v, .mp4v, .cmp, .divx, .xvid: video-only, raw mpeg-4 video streams (not inside MP4)
.3gp, .3g2: used by mobile phones, stores content not defined in .mp4 too (H.263, AMR)
